UDVMA Urges Utah Veterans to Remain Vigilant Against Veteran-Targeted Scams

The Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs (UDVMA) is warning veterans, service members, and their families to watch for scams targeting their community.

Specifically, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs alerted veterans about fraudulent postcards promoting a fake "Veterans Savings Program." The mailers falsely claim recipients may qualify for extra payments or coverage, such as CHAMPVA, TRICARE, and dental, and urge them to call a provided phone number immediately. The VA confirmed these postcards are fraudulent and should be thrown away.

Veterans should stay alert if a message creates artificial urgency, promises unknown benefits, asks for sensitive data or payment, or provides unfamiliar contact details.

Ignore the Postcard: Do not call the listed number or share personal information.
Verify Directly: Check the legitimacy of any VA benefits claim by calling the official VA line at 800-827-1000.
Report Fraud: Report suspected veteran-targeted scams via VSAFE at 833-388-7233.
Protect Loved Ones: Caregivers and family members are encouraged to discuss these scams with veterans to help prevent identity theft and financial loss.

UDVMA advises veterans to slow down and verify unexpected offers before acting, emphasizing that legitimate organizations will never pressure anyone into immediate decisions or demand personal details for earned benefits.
