The Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration has awarded over $16.5 million in grants to the State of Utah to expand and establish Veterans cemeteries.
A grant of up to $14,740,955 will fund the establishment of the Northern Utah Veterans Cemetery in Washington Terrace. Designed to serve more than 4,000 local Veterans and their eligible family members, the project will feature 500 pre-placed crypts, 600 columbarium niches, 550 in-ground cremains gravesites, a memorial wall, equipment, landscaping, irrigation, and supporting infrastructure.
Additionally, a grant of up to $1,911,000 will fund an expansion at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale. Serving over 102,000 Veterans and their families in the region, the funding will cover 1,400 columbarium niches along with updated landscaping and irrigation.
“On behalf of Utah and the Utah Department of Veterans & Military Affairs, I extend our sincere gratitude to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for this significant investment in our veteran and military community. Receiving over $16.5 million in grant funding allows us to establish a new state veterans cemetery in Washington Terrace and expand capacity at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale.
This achievement would not be possible without the continued partnership of Utah’s Congressional delegation and the unwavering support of our local veterans organizations. Together, we are ensuring our military heroes and their families receive the accessible, dignified resting place and perpetual care they have rightfully earned.”
